After 64 years, Metzger Community Preschool will be relocating to a new space at Tigard Community Friends Church (15800 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard, OR) beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. Since its formation in September 1963, the school has experienced many changes, although the fall of 2018 will mark the first change of address. Metzger Community Preschool follows a play-based preschool curriculum for children ages 2.5 through 5 years old.
For over 6 decades, the preschool has operated out of the Tigard United Methodist Church building on Locust across the street from Metzger Elementary School. In recent years, the church has started a community outreach program, under the direction of the Bethlehem House of Bread, that includes a food pantry, a community garden, a free store, cooking classes and an afterschool enrichment program. The program has grown exponentially and requires more space to continue the much needed community support it provides.
We worked with Sandy Hendricks of Ovation Design Build to provide a design rendering of Teacher Mary's vision of the new classrooms (see below). All of our student's favorite things will still be there including our large blocks, train table, dress-up area, library, science table, touch table and art easels. The school board is putting a plan together to enhance the outdoor play space to make it a fun environment for students to enjoy.
