As a cooperative preschool, we require parent/volunteer involvement in four (4) different areas:
Assistant Teachers - Two to four times per month (depending on class size) each parent/volunteer will work in the classroom from 8:30 until the last child is picked up and you complete all your tasks. You will be supervising children in the classroom, leading a small group, preparing and cleaning up activities, maintaining safety in the classroom and on the playground and helping children with snack and lunchtimes. A clear list of daily duties and class schedule is posted in the classroom for reference. During half of your assistant teacher days, you will also be responsible for bringing a healthy snack for the class, teacher and another assistant teacher. A suggested list of healthy snacks can be found in the classroom and in our handbook.
We also require that each parent/volunteer that works in the classroom complete a background check. The registration fee includes the cost of one (1) background check. Any additional background checks require a $5 processing fee per application. In addition to the background check, the parent/volunteer must have their COVID vaccination or show proof of medical exemption.
Fundraising - There are two fundraisers each year and your family will be responsible for a total of $320. You may sell the product or simply pay the total if you choose not to sell. Each family is also required to sign up for one fundraiser work party to help organize sold product when it comes in. One fundraiser is in Fall/Winter and the other in Spring.
Committee/Board Position - Each family is required to take on a committee or board position. All positions and their descriptions will be provided prior to your first day of school. Please read these before signing up as some jobs may require a larger time commitment than others.
General Meetings - There are three general meetings that families are expected to attend. Both parents are encouraged to attend but it is only required that one attend. These will all be in the evening in August, January and April/May.
Work Parties - Each family is required to attend one classroom cleaning work party. They take place on a Saturday from 9-12 in August, January and May. Only one parent or other representative from each family is required to work.
